Why does TikTok "get" you?

You watch one cooking clip to the end, and suddenly your whole feed is food. How does it know you like it?

Every second is recorded

The app records everything: how long you watch, whether you rewatch, like, share, or scroll right past.

Pausing is a strong signal

The strongest signal is often how long you stop and watch. You don't need to hit like. Just watching for a while is enough.

What do people like you enjoy?

Then it looks at what else people with similar taste enjoy, and shows those clips to you.

MACHINE LEARNING

This is machine learning too

This is machine learning: from billions of views, the machine learns to guess which clip will keep you watching the longest.

The recommendation loop

The more you watch, the more it suggests. Your feed can get stuck on a few topics you never chose.
