Answering right away leads to mistakes

The last part. So far, AI answers by guessing word by word, and whatever comes out stays. For hard problems, answering right away leads to mistakes.

Scratch paper

Reasoning models are taught one more thing: write a draft first. Break the problem into steps, try one way, check it, fix mistakes, and only then give the answer.

Fast or careful?

The trade-off is that it's slower and costs more. Simple questions don't need it. But for math, planning and comparing many options, thinking mode is much better.

8 pieces of AI's brain

And that's the whole of AI's brain. Cut text into pieces. Put meaning on a map. Pay attention to the right places. Read a whole library. Get taught how to answer by people. Draw each word. Read your documents. And think before speaking.
