An AI logo: whose is it?

Mark asks AI to draw a logo for his café, loves it, and wants to know whether the logo belongs to him under copyright.

COPYRIGHT

The law needs a human author

Bit explains: in many countries, like the US, copyright only protects what a person creates. An image made entirely by AI from one prompt is usually hard to protect, so other people may reuse it.

YOUR PART

Heavy editing changes things

If you use AI for a draft, then redraw and edit a lot yourself, your creative part has a chance to be protected. Laws differ by country and are changing, so for big projects, ask a lawyer.

RISK

Don't copy others

The bigger risk is copying others: asking AI to draw a famous cartoon character or another brand's logo to sell products can break their copyright.

TERMS

Read the tool's terms

Before using AI images for business, read the terms of the tool you use and check whether commercial use is allowed.
