Same model, two different fates
Two apps use the same AI model. One you use every day, the other you delete after one try. Why? Because the model is just the engine.
An engine isn't a car
A good engine isn't a car yet. To drive, you also need fuel, a steering wheel, brakes and a dashboard. An AI product is the same.
FUEL
Your own data
The fuel is your own data. A bakery's chatbot has to know that bakery's menu, prices and opening hours, not just general knowledge from the internet.
STEERING WHEEL
The interface
The steering wheel is the interface: buttons, suggested questions, a place to show results. A good interface helps people know what to ask, and what to do with the answer.
BRAKES
Guardrails
The brakes are guardrails: things AI must not say or do. The bakery chatbot must not promise discounts on its own, or chat about unrelated topics.
DASHBOARD
Feedback from users
And the dashboard: like and dislike buttons, questions people have to ask twice. It tells the product team whether the car is running well, or where it's about to break.
Where's the difference?
Many companies can rent the same engine. What makes the difference is the other four parts.
PART 2
Does this task even need AI?
But before building the car, there's a bigger question: does this task really need AI? See you in part 2.
