A code stuck on top

QR codes at shop counters or parking lots can have another code stuck over them, sending your payment to a stranger's account.

RED FLAGS

Look first, read the name

Watch for codes stuck on top, peeling edges or misaligned frames. When scanning, read the recipient's name before you transfer.

ODD PAGES

Asked to log in? Leave

If a public code opens a page asking for your bank login or an OTP code, leave immediately.

IF IT HAPPENED

Call your bank and the police

If you've sent money or entered details, call your bank right away to lock your account, then report it to the police.
