Watch on

A million robots

In 2025, Amazon put its one millionth robot into its warehouses. They move among people and shelves without crashing thanks to the three eyes you've just learned about.

IN THE WAREHOUSE

Robots read codes on the floor

Shelf-carrying robots read codes stuck to the floor with a camera on their underside to know which square they're on. Robots that roam freely between aisles use LiDAR to map the space and avoid people.

SAFETY

A forklift's stop zone

A self-driving forklift uses LiDAR to draw a no-entry zone around itself. At 2 meters per second it needs 2.2 meters to stop, so the zone is set at 3.3 meters, and the forklift stops when someone steps inside.

TRAFFIC

Cameras at the intersection

At intersections, AI cameras count motorbikes and cars in each direction to extend the green light for the busier side, and read the plates of cars that run a red light.

TRAFFIC

Radar speed guns

Speed guns use Doppler radar like in part 2, turning the frequency shift into kilometers per hour, even at night or in the rain.

LESSON

Pick the eye for the job

Notice how they choose: a camera to read text, radar to measure speed in any weather, LiDAR to avoid people precisely. Wherever someone could get hurt, combine two or more kinds.
